Orlando Housing Not as Overpriced as South Florida

Since 2000, the median sales price of existing Orlando housing jumped about 130 percent to $245,000, and the price of newly constructed Orlando housing increased by 100 percent. These huge increases in such a short time have locals wondering if real estate prices aren´t overheated.

Local market watchers may sigh with relief at the news that a National City Corp. report “suggests Orlando´s housing market may not be as overpriced as some of the other 299 markets surveyed.” Orlando housing is still more affordable than that of Naples, Miami, West Palm Beach, Sarasota, Fort Lauderdale, Vero Beach, Panama City and many other Florida cities. Price issues may explain why Florida residents are increasingly moving away from South Florida and into Central Florida.

According to the report, Orlando housing is only overpriced by 19 percent, a figure that will ultimately help the Orlando housing market “when it comes to the question of the real estate bubble.”
