Federal Dollars Bring Hope to Orlando Housing Projects
Hope VI is a program that has awarded billions of dollars worth of grants nationwide “to replace blighted housing projects with new homes and apartments,” and Orlando, Florida is the site of two Hope VI projects.
Orlando housing projects that have been decaying for decades will now be torn down and replaced thanks to Hope VI funding. Officials hope that the modern Orlando housing built in its place “will improve the area’s image, which in turn will attract more investment and plant the seeds for new business” and jobs.
Ultimately, the goal of Hope VI is to develop new Orlando housing stock that “will help spur economic growth,” for both the city and its marginalized communities.
